the big picture show

This was the last production for me to use 35mm slides. We had a total of 20 x screens with 3 x projectors per screen. Production involved resizing images sympathetically to the unique screen shapes and sizes, cleaning-up any damaged images, manipulate or create new imagery. The show has now been updated for data projection, this is due to the latest technologies ability to give us the brightness and throw required to achieve an acceptable image quality. It also gives us the ability to add more shows and video footage.

As a preview technique, I decided to create a basic model of the projection space and put a 360° camera in to view the show as a whole. This helped to organise and make sure that we didn't have any duplication of images within your view point. Using the model, I have now animated a 360° camera that moves through the space from the entrance to the opposite end of the gallery. These images are cycling at a regular pace and are synchronised. The actual show was programmed with images changing independently and were choreographed to the audio track.
